About Built Assess

At Built Assess, we pride ourselves on offering comprehensive assessments and detailed building reports. By focusing on detailed assessments and strong, clear reporting, the stage of the building work achieved, and whether the building works comply with the building contract, and building codes and standards, is clearly documented.

Who We Are

Built Assess is led by James Wilson and Dan Holt, bringing decades of experience in the building industry, and over 15 years of experience in building consulting. Our expertise spans across project management, including estimating, construction programmes, contract administration, site management, and client collaboration to meet project goals. We understand the importance of clear communication and solid planning in ensuring that a building project stays on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.

Whether you're starting a new build, assessing ongoing works, or in a dispute with your builder, Built Assess is your trusted partner for thorough and reliable reporting.

We have built partnerships with leading construction dispute lawyers in Melbourne and Greater Victoria.

James Wilson

James earned a Diploma of Building from Box Hill Institute, where he was recognised as the Top Building Student in both 2002 and 2003. His construction career began with a Melbourne developer, where he supervised residential property developments and managed site operations for a commercial business park.

With extensive experience in project management, James has developed expertise in estimating, construction programs, contract administration, and working closely with clients to meet their project goals. His background also includes serving as a member of Victoria Police.

For over a decade, James has worked as a building consultant, including three years overseeing a team of building consultants. He is a Registered Building Practitioner and an active member of professional organisations such as the Building Disputes Practitioner Society, the Australian Society of Building Consultants, and the Master Builders Association of Victoria.

James has appeared in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, the Magistrates Court, and the County Court providing evidence in building dispute matters.

Dan Holt

Dan completed his studies to become an electrician at Swinburne.  Further studies included Hazardous Areas and Explosive Environments, ATAR accreditation for Defence Projects and Certificate 4 in Building and Construction.

Dan's construction career began as an electrician, moving through roles such as leading hand, foreman, project manager and business manager positions for commercial and residential developments.

Supervision and QA roles on large scale industrial projects, including the Victorian Desalination Plant, Queensland Gas and Mining, as well as Australia's largest naval ships, HMAS Adelaide and HMAS Canberra preceded a move into domestic construction in 2014.

Dan has overseen the construction of more than 100 homes with a leading Melbourne volume builder, giving him deep insight into all aspects of domestic building processes and quality assurance.

For the past six years, Dan has been working as a building consultant. He is a licensed electrician and a proud member of the Building Disputes Practitioner Society.”
